KNITWEAR

Knitwear is engineered across fibre, yarn architecture, gauge, stitch structure, shaping, assembly, wet finishing, fit and manufacturing capability.

KNITWEAR / PRODUCT SYSTEMS
01 / POSITION

KNITWEAR BUILDS MATERIAL, SURFACE AND FORM AT THE SAME TIME.

The textile is created while the component or garment is formed. Fibre, yarn, gauge, stitch, shape, knitting, assembly, finish and fit operate as one technical sequence; each level conditions the next and can become part of Product Identity.

THE KNITWEAR CONSTRUCTION ATLAS.

Read the product through material, machine, structure, shaping, assembly, finishing, quality and manufacturing capability.

TECHNICAL FIELD / 01

Fibre & Yarn Architecture

Fibre diameter and length, spinning route, yarn count, ply and twist determine hand, strength, loft, machine stability and the operating window of the knit.

Fibre · spinning route · yarn count · ply · twist · colour

TECHNICAL FIELD / 02

Gauge & Machine Selection

Gauge is needle density, not a standalone quality scale. It must be read with machine type, yarn count, ply, stitch structure, working width and take-down.

Machine type · gauge · yarn count · structure · take-down · working width

TECHNICAL FIELD / 03

Knit Structures & Surface Engineering

Plain, rib, interlock, tuck, cable, pointelle, jacquard and intarsia alter elasticity, density, relief, stability and yarn consumption. Structure is a design and production variable, not surface decoration.

Plain · rib · tuck · cable · pointelle · jacquard · intarsia

TECHNICAL FIELD / 04

Shaping, Linking & Garment Construction

Fully fashioned panels, cut-and-sew knit, whole-garment and seamless systems follow different shaping and assembly logics. Linking and seam architecture must match gauge, stretch, bulk and edge stability.

Fully fashioned · linking · cut & sew · whole garment · seamless · seam type

TECHNICAL FIELD / 05

Wet Finishing & Dimensional Control

Scouring, milling, rinsing, drying, raising or brushing and steam/pressing can change density, bloom, hand and measurements. The product is assessed only after the target finish.

Scour · mill/full · dry · raise/brush · steam/press · measure/QC

TECHNICAL FIELD / 06

Prototype, Fit & Quality Validation

Development validates yarn, programme, structure, measurements, linking, finish and care performance through knit-downs, prototypes, corrections and an approved production standard.

Knit-down · prototype · fit · dimensional stability · pilling · defects

TECHNICAL FIELD / 07

Factory Capability & Manufacturing Route

Capability is mapped by machine architecture, gauge range, programming depth, linking/sewing, finishing, handwork and QC, then assessed separately from capacity, MOQ and lead time.

Machine fleet · programming · sample room · linking · finishing · QC · MOQ/capacity

03 / PRODUCT EVIDENCE

PRODUCT IDENTITY IS BUILT INTO THE KNIT.

KNIT SYSTEM INTELLIGENCE

GAUGE IS ONE VARIABLE IN A SYSTEM.

Gauge must be read with machine type, yarn count, ply, stitch structure and take-down. The same gauge can produce very different mass, compactness, elasticity and hand.

RECOGNISABLE WITHOUT A LOGO.

Knitwear identity can be encoded in yarn and colour, gauge range, shoulder and volume, stitch scale, rib and hem ratios, neck and trim construction and finishing. Codes are recurring relationships, not isolated ornaments.

CAPABILITY IS MORE THAN A MACHINE LIST.

PERUGIA / UMBRIA · CARPI · YARN / FINISHING NETWORK

A knitwear factory is qualified by actual machine models and gauge range, programming depth, sample-room access, linking/sewing, wet finishing, handwork, dimensional control and QC. Capability, capacity, MOQ and lead time are assessed separately.
